Ebemezer Mullen

Ebenezer Mullen died Sunday afternoon, October 22, 1916, at 2:30 o'clock at his home at 103 W. Hammond street, his death being due to kidney and heart trouble with which he had suffered for several years. He had been confined to his bed for only ten days previous to his death.

He was born in Canada, February 29, 1836, and was twice married. His first marriage was to Lucinda Stearns, January 1, 1860, and to this union were born four children. They are Clark of Esbon, Kans.; B.O., of Elliott; B.W., of Pilot Grove township; and Mrs. Emma Ray of Griswold. His second marriage was to Maria Garside in Pilot Grove township December 6, 1883, and to this union two children were born. They are Mrs. Dora Latimer of Montesano, Wash., and Russell of Red Oak.

Mr. Mullen came to Montgomery county in 1873, engaging in farming. In 1914 he came to Red Oak to make his home. He was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services were held at the home at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, and at the Pilot Grove Center Methodist church at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, Rev. F.N. Willis of Red Oak and Rev. D.B.S. Prather of Elliott being in charge. The pall bearers were B.O. and B.W. and Russell Mullen, sons of the deceased; Ed Ray, a son-in-law; and Clarence Ray, a grandson. Interment was made in the cemetery at Pilot Grove Center. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were E.A. Garside of Charlotte, Ia., Mrs. Laura Yonker and Mrs. Elizabeth Boler of Raymond, Neb., Mrs. Edith Norton, of Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. B.O. Mullen and son and Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Mullen of Pilot Grove, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ray and son, Clarence of Griswold, and Mrs. Dora Latimer of Montesano, Wash.
