MRS. MARTHA HARDING DEAD

She Had Been A Resident of Red Oak Since 1865-Funeral Held Thursday
Afternoon

Mrs. Martha J. Harding, wife of A. W. Harding, one of the early settlers of
Red Oak, and highly esteemed by Red Oak people, passed away at her home, 507
Prospect St., Tuesday evening, Jan. 4, after suffering from grip for about
ten days.

Mrs. Harding was born Oct. 6, 1849, in Clinton, Ill., and came to Red Oak in
1865. She was married here Oct __, 1867, to A. W. Harding, who survives
her. She is survived also by one son, Will A. Harding, of Lincoln, Neb., as
well as by two brothers and two sisters, as follows: Louis Harp, of Fargo,
Okla.; Daniel Harp, of Hebron, Neb.; Mrs. Sarah Walker and Mrs. Nellie
Niles, of Hebron.

The funeral of Mrs. Harding was held at the home yesterday (Thursday)
afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. E. N. Willis, D. D., of the M.E. church,
conducting the service. Friends who acted as pallbearers were David Artz,
D.B. Miller, J. W. Pogue, Joe Clark, Jonathan Flood and J. W. Smith.

Those who were here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs.
Will Harding, from Lincoln; Mrs. Sarah Walker, Mrs. Nellie Niles and Daniel
Harp, of Hebron, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes, of Shenandoah; Andy and
Zearil Harding and Miss Ida Braden, of Griswold; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wyckoff,
of Villisca.

Mrs. Harding was a good woman who enjoyed the respect of all who knew her.
She was a member of the Grand Army. Her death has brought sadness to many
hearts, and many friends extend to the surviving relatives the sincerest
sympathy.
