W. H. Lathrop Dead

Funeral services for W. H. Lathrop, 63, who died Saturday, March 24, at 7:05
p.m., at his home in the Pleasant Lawn vicinity, following sickness of
several months, from cancer of the stomach, were held Monday at 2:30 p.m.,
from the Pleasant Lawn Presbyterian church. Rev. E. F. Hammond, pastor of
the Red Oak Presbyterian church, conducted the services and paid eloquent
tribute to the deceased. The pallbearers were A. M. Selser, J. D. Baird,
Thos. Rea, Will Ogden, E. A. DeWitt and C. W. Spicer. Interment was in the
Red Oak Cemetery. Those here from a distance to attend the funeral included
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Lathrop, Omaha; Misses Ellen and Laura Lathrop, Des
Moines; and Mrs. Emma Miller, Orient.

William Henry Lathrop was born in Delaware county, Iowa, Jan. 11, 1865. He
came to this county with his parents in February 1874 and with the exception
of a few years in Kansas, he had lived the most of his life in Iowa. He
married May 16, 1886, to Susie L. Wadsworth, in Waubaunsee county, Kas. To
this union two sons and one daughter were born. They are Paul, Ray, and
Rose, all of Red Oak. When 19 years of age he united with the Baptist
church of Chalk, Kas., but when he returned to this vicinity he united with
the Pleasant Lawn Presbyterian church and took an active part in all
departments of church work. For the past 13 years he had served as
superintendent of the Sunday school and teacher of the Bible class. H was
ruling elder of the church. Besides his wife and children, he leaves the
following grandchildren: Mary Helen, Frances, Pauline, Charles William and
Roy Lathrop; also two brothers, C. F. Lathrop, Ruthdown, Ida., and E.B.
Lathrop, of Omaha; and five sisters, Mrs. H. J. Trabert, Spokane, Wash; Mrs.
Emily Miller, Orient; Katherine Lathrop, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Ellen and
Laura Lathrop, of Des Moines. Mr. Lathrop was a highly respected citizen,
kind father and a good friend and neighbor and his many friends will mourn
his passing.
