Gerald (Jud) Eichorn, age 77, of Melrose, Iowa passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at home.
Jud was born May 17, 1933, the son of Ralph and Avis (Brown) Eichorn in Marshalltown, Iowa. He married Beverly Bryant on April 24, 1957 at the Church of the Nazarene in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was a Marshalltown police officer for eight years and then worked 28 years for the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, retiring in 1997. Jud was an official for high school and football and basketball for 50 years. He officiated 9 straight Iowa High School State playoffs. In 1991 he was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Moravia.
Jud is survived by his wife; children, Karen (Judson) Jakobitz of Buffalo Lake, MN, Denise (Ty) Lasher of BellAire, KS, Cheryl (Dave) Freel of Marshalltown, IA, Jeff (Heidi) Eichorn of Ames, Iowa; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Emory Eichorn of Marshalltown, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at the First Church of Nazarene in Marshalltown, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday evening at the Church with family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
