Millard Fillmore Raner was born in West Virginia, Feb. 11th, 1856, and died Nov. 18, 1922 at the home of his son, C.C. Raner near Guthrie Center, Iowa.
At the time of his death he had attained the age of sixty-six years, nine months and seven days.
His parents were James H. and Sarah E. Raner.
In 1881 he came with his parents to Guthrie Center, Iowa, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.
On July 3, 1882 he was married to Miss Susie Miller.
To Mr. and Mrs. Raner were born one son, who together with his wife and four children remain to mourn the departure of father and grandfather.
Mr. Raner is also survived by one brother, W. V. Raner of Des Moines, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Snyder and Mrs. Martha Straight of Guthrie Center, Iowa.
He was a kind and affectionate father. Love and service for other, the two greatest things in the world, were his greatest desire.
The sunset has come softly like a benediction. But there is an after glow.
Somewhere, out there beyond the sunset the sun still shines and loving hands still guide.
But the after glow memory remains.
Funeral services were conducted by Harm Rust, pastor of Guthrie Center Baptist church assisted by Albert Rust, pastor of Freedom Baptist church of Panora at the Union church and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery beside the church.
