Thelma Bernice Murray
Thelma Bernice Murray, 84, passed away at Heritage Nursing & Rehab in Cedar Rapids Jan. 31, 2004, 84 years to the day she entered this world. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Oskaloosa.She was born Jan. 31, 1920 to John and Veronica Durbala Sofranko in Lovilia. Thelma attended schools in Lovilia and business school in Des Moines. She was married to Richard Murray. She was employed as a legal secretary for Frank Karpan in his private law practice and also during his term as Monroe County Attorney. Thelma was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Peter's Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling locally as well as in state and national tournaments. She enjoyed the beauty of nature and walking her dogs. The last six years she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Heritage Nursing & Rehab. She is survived by her daughter Sue & her husband Herk Travis of Coralville; one brother, Gerald and his wife Beverly of Lovilia; two sisters, Sr. Maurine (Clara) Sofranko of Des Moines and Frances Heffron Lange of Milwaukee, Wisc.; and 16 nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her brother Ray and sister Eleanora.Casketbearers were Don Sofranko, Jim Sofranko, Cecilia Sofranko, John Heffron and Mark Heffron.Gilbert-Boman Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
