Pierce Coady
OLD RESIDENT CALLED HOME
PIERCE COADY, ONE OF THE OLDEST MEN IN THE COUNTY, ANSWERS SUMMONS.
The death of Pierce Coady at his home in Franklin township the past week takes from Monroe County one of her best and most honored citizens. Pierce Coady was known to every man, woman and child in all of Franklin township and individually they were his friends and he was their friend. He had lived past the time allotted to man, and but a few days before his passing he told the boys that he was ready to go, that all the children were grown up, were looking after themselves, and there was peace with his soul.
Mr. Coady was born in Ireland in 1820. He left his native land when he was 19 years of age and in 1854 came to Monroe County and settled in Franklin township, where he has resided ever since. Just prior to coming to the United States he spent a short time in England and Scotland, then came to Ohio. The call of the west came to him and he hurried out to Iowa where he has resided the years of his life and where by hard labor, frugal living and manly bearing he has endeared himself to all who knew him.
Mr. Coady was twice married, the second wife still living at the age of 78 years. He was the father of eleven children, eight of whom are now living --- four boys and four girls. The children have grown to manhood and womanhood in this country, and have been a credit to their able father. The funeral services were held at the Georgetown church the latter part of the week, and one of God's best men had the service said over his remains which were laid tenderly and quietly in the Georgetown cemetery.
