Mary McGrath
Mary McGrath, 95, of Albia, died Sunday, April 28, 2002 at Monroe Care Center in Albia. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, Fr. William Walter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
She was born Oct. 26, 1906, to Martin and Catherine (Murray) Ciska, in Melrose. She married Arthur G. McGrath April 22, 1930, in Melrose. They lived in the Melrose area until 1952 when they moved to Urbandale. Mary worked at Broadlawns and Northwest Hospital. After her husband’s death in 1967 she returned to Melrose. In 1980 she moved to Albia. Mary enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She is survived by her children, Art and Rita of Urbandale, Maureen Miller of West Des Moines, Darleen Metier of Knoxville, Tenn., Ed and Nancy of Joliet, Mont.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Jack; one sister, Helen Batten; and one brother, Jack Ciska.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., at South Gilbert Nordstrom Funeral Home in Albia, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m., and an evening service at 7 p.m.
Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
