Joseph B. McGrath
Joseph B. McGrath, 97, of Albia, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Monroe County Hospital Extended Care in Albia, of respiratory failure. Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, Rev. William Walter officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
He was born March 19, 1905, to John and Mary Cummins McGrath in Melrose. He married Mary L. Barry, Oct. 20, 1931, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose. She died Feb. 24, 1992. He was a life-long resident of Monroe County where he farmed his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia and was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4167 of Albia. He truly loved working on the farm and providing for his family.
He is survived by one daughter, Diane Maher of Winfield, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn G. McGrath of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Joe and Jack McGrath; four brothers, Herbert, Maurice, Edmond and Dave McGrath; and two sisters, Mary Snyder and Helen Brown.
Memorials have been established to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia or to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose.
Winfield Funeral Home in Albia was in charge of arrangements.
