MURPHY
Hannah Josephine Murphy, 86, of Knoxville, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at the Knoxville
Area Community Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 19 at St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church in Knoxville, Rev. Mark P. Spring officiating. Burial was at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 17, 1914 in Lovilia to Con O’Brien and Frances (Fitzgerald) O’Brien. She
was raised in the Weller area. She married Paul M. Murphy on Oct. 8, 1940. They farmed
and raised their family in Knoxville. She had a green thumb and was known for the beautiful
flowers she grew. Her greatest joy was her family, and she especially enjoyed her
grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary
Society.
She is survived by three sons, John and Donald of Knoxville and David of Waukee; a
daughter, Jo Ann Jackson of Rose Hill; two sisters, Catherine Lynch and Lucille Lahart, both
of Albia; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other cherished family
members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; three brothers; and three
sisters.
Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville was in charge of arrangements.
