Johnston, James Carl [J.C.]

Services were held today at 1:30 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church for J. Carl Johnston, 78 who died Friday at 2 p.m. at the Monroe County Hospital.

The Rev. George N. Brockway of LaGrange, IL, officiated at the funeral. Burial was in Oak View Cemetery.

Johnston was born in McConnellsburg, PA, Oct. 4, 1891. He was the son of J. Elmer and Rosetta Atchison Johnston. He married Beulah Mohler Feb. 16, 1921. She survives.

Before his retirement, Johnston was an Albia teacher and farmer. He graduated from Iowa State College, and was county agent at Bedford, [Taylor Co., IA] before moving to Albia. Johnston had been an elder in the United Presbyterian Church since 1926. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the Navy.

He is survived by a son, Robert [formerly married to Nellie Jane May of Albia] of Columbia, MO; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Jane Linville of New Sharon and Mrs. Charlene Kirkwood of Knoxville; four grandchildren, including Richard Eugene Johnston whom they reared in their home; one great grandson; and a sister, Mrs Laura Brockway of LaGrange, IL.

A memorial to the heart fund has been established in Johnston's name.
