MRS. CATHERINE LEONARD

Mrs. Catherine Leonard, for many years a resident of Chariton, departed this life at her home on Osceola avenue on Monday, Sept. 3, 1945, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 16 days, after an illness of two weeks.

Catherine, daughter of William and Alice McKillip, was born May 18, 1859, in Cherry, Illinois. She was married at Weller, Iowa, on July 13, 1879, to John Leonard, who preceded her in death.

To this union eight children were born, four of whom, James, William, John and Leo, have passed away. Those left to mourn their loss are Mrs. Mae Reid, of Burlington; Mrs. Alice Storbeck, of Anita; Mrs. Katie Tee, of Ottumwa; and Lawrence Leonard, of Indianola. There are also 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Leonard was a devout and faithful member of the Sacred Heart church and a regular attendant at church services as long as her health permitted. She was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, and during her long residence here had won a host of warm friends by her cheerful disposition and pleasing ways, and willingness to render service to others in times of need. Her demise will be deplored by all who knew her.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Father Charles O'Conner, were held at 9:00 o'clock Thursday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic church, and burial was in Calvary cemetery.
