Mrs. Peter Murphy one of Monroe County's oldest pioneers died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Lewis, July 16th, at 10 o'clock p.m. She was 77 years old at the time of her death. She was born in Janesville, Ohio, Oct. 1826, and was married at Benton's Ferry, Van Buren Co., Ohio, in 1848, to Peter Murphy; they moved to Monroe county in ‘53 or ‘54. Five children were born to this union, and two of the children preceded her and the three that are left to mourn her death are Mrs. Susan Nicholson, Mrs. Mary Cotter, and Mrs. J. W. Lewis. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Stacyville July 18th, Father Gaule officiating and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Stacyville.
