Betty Rose (Coughlin) Sinnott

Betty Sinnott, age 87 of Waukee, formerly of Albia, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014, at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee.

Betty was born July 29, 1926, to Tom and Katie (Luttrell) Coughlin in Georgetown. She married John "Ed" Edward Sinnott October 2, 1947 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown.

Betty graduated from Georgetown High School, class of 1944. She worked at Chamberlains for 15 years and later at the Leisure Lounge, both in Albia. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club.

Betty is survived by her four children, Tom (Cindy) Sinnott of Denison, Jackie Sinnott of West Des Moines, Mike (Cathy) Sinnott of Dubuque, and Ed Sinnott of Clive; six grandchildren, Michelle Howard, Melissa Cartens, Melinda Sinnott, Colin Sinnott, Meg Sinnott, and Brendan Sinnott; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Emma Cartens; a sister, Pat Nichols, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents, Tom and Katie; two brothers, Joe and John Coughlin; and a sister, Mary Beary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Tuesday January 7, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Betty's family present. A rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society at 4 p.m., and a Christian wake service will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society in Albia. Condolences may be left for the family at www.tharpfh.com.
