Death Takes James Duggan of Melrose

James Duggan, postmaster for three terms at Melrose, passed away at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa at 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Duggan was 86 years old, and in addition to holding the postmaster position he acted as funeral director from 1897 to 1917, and also spent several years in the grocery business.

Born at Georgetown, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Duggan, he moved with the family to Melrose when a boy.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Wolfe of Ambridge, Penn.; one sister, Hannah Duggan of Melrose; and several grandchildren.

The body will be taken from the Humeston Funeral home to the residence in Melrose Thursday afternoon. Services will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick's church with the Rev. M. T. Gaffney officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
