Thursday, September 29, 1960

Rites Tuesday For Carrie Tisue, 74

Mary Caroline Newman, daughter of Aaron and Mahala Baldwin Newman, was born June 13, 1886, two and one-half miles north-east of Moravia, in Monroe county. She suffered a stroke at 11:00 p.m. last Saturday night, and passed away at 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning at Mercy hospital in Oelwein, Iowa.

Carrie, as she was known by all her friends and neighbors, had lived in and around Moravia most of her life. At an early age she became a member of the United Brethren Church in Christ, and was an active member of the Church and a steward of God's kingdom as long as life and health permitted.

In 1909 she was united in marriage to Mr. Harry D. Tisue, who passed away in 1946. To this union was born seven children: Mrs. Claude Hawk of Moravia; Mrs. Alfred Sutton of Waterloo; Mrs. Warren Rouse of Albia; Mr. Rex Tisue of Sumner; Mrs. Van Spears of Lovilia; Mr. Harry D. Tisue, Jr. of Waterloo; and Mr. Harold Tisue of Westgate; all of whom still survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, two brothers and one grandchild. Surviving besides her seven children are: one sister, Mrs. Jennie Puffer of Hitchcock, South Dakota, 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a great host of friends who mourn her passing, but rejoice in her victory over the world and death to enter into that glorious state of eternal life with God the Father Almighty.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the E. U. B. church with Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Interment at the Moravia Cemetery.
