Obituary

Nancy Ann Dillard, daughter of George and Rachel Dillard, was born in Fayette county, Indiana, May 12, 1828; lived in Fayette county until she was six years of age, when with her parents, she moved to Handcock county, Indiana.

She was married to Thomas Baldwin, December 31, 1843. To this happy union were born eleven children, respectively: Mahala, John, Nancy Jane, Elizabeth, Jackson, Jacob, Laura Ann, Martha E., Frances, and twins, Thomas and Joseph. They moved from Handcock county, Indiana, to Monroe county, Iowa, near Albia, in 1854, where her husband died and went before her October 22, 1901. After her bereavement she lived on on the farm until 1905, when she moved with her daughter, Elizabeth, to Moravia, Iowa; where she resided until November, 1909, when she moved to her daughter, Frances.

For three months she lingered patiently, uncomplainingly, waiting for the end which she said she was ready to meet, in the sickness caused by a complication of diseases brought on by old age, which ended by a peaceful sleep March 16, to awaken and receive the reward we know awaits a life so pure.

Her earthly cares ended at the ripe age of 81 years, 10 months and 4 days, a career that those left can look back upon with admiration. She left to mourn her departure, three sons and four daughters, respectively, Mr. John Baldwin, Laird, Kansas; Jackson Baldwin, Lambert, Oklahoma; Mrs. Mahala Newman, Moravia, Iowa; Miss Elizabeth Baldwin, Moravia Iowa; Mrs. Laura Gorsuch, Huron, South Dakota; Mrs. Frances Hook, Des Moines, Iowa.

She has always been a true believer, trusting and devoted to her Lord and Maker. She united with the United Brethren church of Selection in 1901.

The funeral was held at Selection and conducted by Rev. C. S. Hanson. The funeral was in charge of Undertaker E. C. Downs, of Albia, Iowa.

Many of the old friends and neighbors were privileged to pay last earthly respects and render last services to Grandma Baldwin, who had not seen her for some time. A good attendance was present.
