Obituary

Gideon Chidester was born in the state of West Virginia, April 27, 1828, died at his home in Mantua township, October 22, 1901.

He was married to Miss Lucinda Good April 30, 1856. To this union ten children were born, six girls and four boys, seven of whom with the mother, three brothers and one sister survive him.

He came to Iowa in 1851, and has for half century made his home in Mantua township. He united with the Christian church in 1873.

His funeral services were conducted at the residence Oct. 23 at 2:00 p.m., Elder B. W. Pettit, pastor of the Cuba Christian church having charge of. A very large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors were present to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the memory of this old citizen. His body was lowered into its last resting place in the Bethel cemetery just as the sun was sinking behind the western hills, to await the summons of its Master at the last day. He rests from his labors and his works will follow him.
