Melrose

James O' Connor, an old pioneer resident of Monroe county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jas. Feehan, Sunday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. His death was the result of infirmities of his advanced age.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Ireland, May 4, 1829. He came to America in 1852. He was married in Chicago to Miss Bridget Barry, afterwards coming to Monroe county where they resided on a farm south of town for 35 years. Later they moved to town where they resided until Mrs. O'Connor's death. Since then he made his home the greater part of the time until his death with his daughter, Mrs. Jas. Feehan. Mr. O'Connor was a fervent Catholic and was one of the helpers to haul the rock for the Georgetown Catholic church that was built there in the early 70's.

He leaves to mourn his demise, four sons, William, John, Patrick of Melrose, and James of Lewiston, Idaho, two daughters, Mrs. H. J. Cusack, Burlington, and Mrs. Jas. Feehan, one brother, Michael O'Connor, La Junta, Colo., 49 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held in the Catholic church Tuesday morning. Father McCormick celebrated the Requiem High Mass and preached a beautiful and instructive funeral sermon. His remains were laid to rest beside his wife in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
