Obituary

Catherine Ryan Barron was born in Ohio, April 8, 1849 and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Wm. Morrissey, 8 miles southwest of Lovilia, on Wednesday evening, January 13, 1925, aged 75 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Mrs. Barron was one of the pioneers of Monroe county, coming to Iowa, and locating in this county, with her parents, in the early fifties.

She was united in marriage to James Barron at Georgetown, Iowa, in 1873, and to this union was born six children: Mary who died in 1900, Matthew who died in 1923, and four surviving, Rev. E.W. Barron of Brooklyn, Ia., Phillip, James and Mrs. William Morrissey of Lovilia. Mr. Barron preceded her in death in 1892.

There are also 19 grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure.

Mrs. Barron was dearly beloved by all who knew her, and when she was physically able had been active in church and community affairs.

For the past few years she had been an invalid, but was always patient in her suffering.

The funeral was held at St. Mary's Church, Weller, Friday, Jan. 15, 1925. The Requiem Mass was read with Rev. E. W. Barron Celebrant, Rev. P. J. Ryan, Deacon, Rev. C. A. B. Van Was, her pastor, sub-deacon. Very Rev. J. M. Walsh, Ottumwa, Ia. delivered the sermon. Rev. M. J. Hannon of Grinnell and Rev. James A. O'Neill of Albia were present in the sanctuary.

Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery.
