ALBIA — Golda Mae Arnold, age 92, of Albia died, Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.Golda was born on April 24, 1915, in Wapello County, Iowa to Charles and Minnie (Weeks) Middleton. Minnie died in 1927, when Golda was twelve. At twelve she lived with Jim and Maude Goltry of Dudley. Golda lived with the Goltrys until she married Richard Amon Arnold in Lancaster, Mo. on Nov. 16, 1942. They shared over 41 years together before Richard died on Jan. 12, 1984.Golda worked hard most of her life working as a nurses assistant at various places. She also worked at the Ammunitions Plant in Burlington, and later she worked at Chamberlain in Albia, retiring in 1977. Golda also enjoyed gardening, fishing, quilting, crocheting, puzzles, and baking cookies and bread. Her children have wonderful memories of Easter egg hunts, and her grandchildren share memories of tea parties and story telling. Golda also attended the Avery Methodist Church.

Golda is survived by her children, Evelyn Ver Steegh and her husband, Lee of Des Moines, Jim Arnold and his wife, Ruth of Ottumwa, Charles Arnold and his wife, Margaret of Knoxville and Jack Arnold and Kathy Keeton of Albia; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Golda is also survived by one sister, Ella Mielkey of El Cajon, Calif., and one brother, John Middleton of Ottumwa.Golda was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Martin and Charles Middletown; and one sister, Pearl Davis.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Jim Mead officiating. Burial followed services at Columbia Cemetery of rural Chillicothe, Iowa.A memorial has been established to Hospice of Monroe County .Condolences may be made at www.winfieldfh.com.
