ALBIA — Stephana Julia (Papich) Larson, age 98, of Albia, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa.

She was born to Stanislav and Angeline (Polich) Papich in Scandia, Iowa on August 19, 1909.

Stephana attended school in Lovilia, Iowa. She lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for 40 years and then moved to Evansville, Indiana, so she could be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield after working in the Claims Department. She later returned to Iowa. Stephana loved gardening, crocheting, and caring for her grandchildren.She also took pride in her church work.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, Saint Mary’s Altar and Rosary society, and also The Right to Life.

Stephana is survived by her children, Phillip “Nonny” Papich of Albia, Iowa, and Francine Gansman of Chandler, Indiana; two siblings, Catherine Weatherstone and Frances (Amy) Barron, both of Albia; six grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Scieszinski of Albia, Mike (Karen) Gansman, Lisa Powers, Jeff Gansman, Tom Gansman, and Bruce Papich; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Elna Papich of Albia.

Stephana was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Papich; and three brothers, Stanley, David, and Donald Papich.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia with Rev. Mike Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will start at 11 a.m. at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Albia Chapel, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, with family present from 6-8 p.m. There will be a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.An open memorial has been established in Stephana’s name.
