Amanda M. ANDERSON was born in Indiana on June 19, 1833. Her parents, Samuel and Nancy HARROW, of Irish ancestry, were married in the State of Kentucky. When Amanda was about 13 years of age they came to Iowa, settling first in Jefferson county where they remained for about two years when they settled in Albia in 1846. Samuel Harrow was a merchant and had six children, three boys and three girls. Amanda was the next youngest child and was the last of her father’s family to depart this life. She was married to Daniel Anderson on October 14, 1849 and they lived together a harmonious and happy married life until the husband’s death seventeen years ago. They had born to them seven children, two dying in infancy and Charley and Ned but a few years ago. Three sons, A.L., D.C. and D.M. Anderson, and three grandchildren, Genevieve, Geneva and Charlotte, are left surviving of her immediate family. In her early married life Mrs. ANDERSON united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Albia and has ever since been a faithful and consistent member thereof. She was an unassuming, good, christian woman and she dedicated her life to her family, her home and her church. She was one of the few remaining war widows who remained at home and cared for her children while her husband was doing service in the Union army. She died at Albia, Iowa on Thursday, February 7, 1918, in the home she loved so well and with her children at her bedside.

The funeral was held from her late home on Friday afternoon at three o’clock, her pastor, Rev. BLAGG of the M.E. church officiating. Words of comfort and a short discourse that was an inspiration to all, made the service one of hallowed memory. Mrs. LITTLETON, Mrs. Homer RICHEY and Messers WORTH and RICHEY sang old time hymns, favorites of the deceased, which had been selected by members of the family.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful, including a wreath from the Monroe County Bar Association and a spray from the G.A. R. and ladies of the G.A.R. The obsequies were in charge of Undertaker Ed DOWNS and the pall bearers were Chas. T. PORTER, F.S. LAMBERT, Vade SHAW, Will SHIELDS, R.T. MASON and James GUTCH.

The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Oak View cemetery beside those of her husband and two sons who had preceded her to the better world. A good woman, a faithful citizen and a loyal and loving mother has thus gone to her final reward after living far beyond her three score and ten years, years of usefulness and activity up to almost the very last of her earthly existence. May she rest in peace.
