Leslie Claude Forgy
Leslie Claude Forgy, age 93, of Albia died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at the First Christian Church in Albia with Rev. Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, just west of Bussey.
He was born March 11, 1912 northwest of Lovilia in Monroe County, to Albert and Myrta Faye (Hughes) Forgy. He married Olive Leone Mosbey on April 18, 1937 in the First Christian Church parsonage in Albia. She passed away on Oct. 25, 2000. Like most of his generation, he worked on the family farm with his four younger brothers, among other things, hired out as a farm hand, and tried to make ends meet during the Depression. Claude and Olive lived on several farmsteads until, with their three children, they moved to Albia in 1949. He had worked at Diamond Bottling Company and Kness Manufacturing in Albia. He worked hard his whole life, but liked driving the school bus for the Albia Community School District the best. He lived a long life and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Phyllis (Dan) Ayala of Albia, Martha (Bill) Ostreko of Wyoming, Mich., and Lyle (Donna) Forgy of Wentzville, Mo.; grandchildren, Aaron Ayala of Ottumwa, Deana (Wade) Schut, Debra (Jeff) Maddox, John (Katie) Ostreko, Joe (Lori) Ostreko, all of the Grand Rapids, Mich., area, Jennifer Forgy, Matthew Forgy, and Erin Forgy, all of Brookfield, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Libby, Jacob, and Sydney Maddox, Dylan and Holly Schut. Also surviving is one brother, Norman (Beth) Forgy of Ottumwa; many nieces, nephews, friends and very special 'family,' Kenny and Opal Huber.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Olive of 63 years; three brothers, Cameron, Harlan, and Herman Forgy; two grandchildren, Richard C. Ayala and Mary (Ostreko) Sadler; and a great grandson, Nicholas Todd Sadler.
Visitation began at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening.
Casketbearers will be Aaron Ayala, John Ostreko, Joe Ostreko, Matt Forgy, Bill Huber, and Dick Brock. Honorary casketbearers will be Deana Schut, Wade Schut, Debbie Maddox, Jeff Maddox, Katie Ostreko, Lori Ostreko, Jennifer Forgy and Erin Forgy.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Monroe County.
Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
