Charles may have been a brother to Abraham. A short history. Richard and Ann Tompkins left Bedfordshire, England with their sons, Charles, Thomas, Jessie and Abraham in 1830 or 1831. Shortly before landing in New York harbor, or right after, Richard died from eating tainted meat on board ship. We do not know anything else that happened at that time, but it has been said that the children were put in foster homes and that Ann,at some time later, married a Mr. Mayhew. Word has been handed down in the family that Charles and Thomas were in the battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War and were never heard from after the battle--presumed killed in action.
It is unknown what happened to David but was thought to have gone to Californie. Jessie and family lived in Waukegan, Illinois and kept in touch with Abraham and family. Abraham, as a young man, worked as a lumberman in Wisconsin. He married Susan Teeters at Onawa City, Iowa. They had two children that I know of Lucy Edith and Lewis David ( my grandfather) I think that Abraham, Susan and Lucy are buried in the May cemetary northeast of Chillicothe, Missouri. I have more information about the family that I would share if you are interested. Thank You, Bill
