Obituary in the Onawa paper:

Wm. M. Butcher, 87 Died Tuesday Morning. Wm. M. Butcher better known to his hundreds of friends here where he had resided almost his entire life of 87 years as just plain "Bill" passed away in a Sioux City hospital on Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 1949 following a days illness.

"Bill" as we always greeted him in front of the office each morning on his way uptown was one of those men you'd like to visit with. He had a pleasing personality and could readily tell interesting stories of the days of long ago in this community.

Mr. Butcher had not been in good health and had underwent a number of operations, but with all the suffering that he went through he was never heard to complain. He lived alone in a little home on the east side and was contented with what life held for him. He will be missed by his many friends.

Wm. M. Butcher was born at Cainsville, Mo., May 7, 1862. When he was 22 years of age he came to this community and for many years followed the occupation of farming.

Survivors include the widow, Ann F., a son, William Ray of Le Mars; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Kinsley and Mrs. Mable Shaffer, both of Onawa; and Mrs. Myrtle McJunkin of Sioux City, 10 grand children and 17 great grand children.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon from the Pearson Funeral Home with Rev. Metcalf officiating. Burial will take place in the Onawa cemetery under the direction of the Pearson Funeral home.
