Obituary from the Onawa Democrat, February 5, 1925: Old Settler Crosses Great Divide. Frank O'Connor a settler of this vicinity since 1866 dies. Had been seriously ill for about a week not being able to leave a chair, leaves a wife and two sons and one daughter. Once again an old settler of this community crosses over the great divide into the land of everlasting, where there is no pain no sorrow or grief. Frank O'Connor a resident of this community for nearly sixty years passed away at his home in North Onawa on Wednesday morning, February 4, 1925 after a severe illness caused by heart trouble of over a week, all of which time he was unable to leave a chair in which he was stricken. Mr. O'Connor was born at Springfield, Illinois on November 22, 1859 and was at the time of his death 66 years old. He came with his parents to Iowa a short time after his birth and located at Cedar Falls, Iowa, after a short resident there they moved to Onawa, coming here in the year known as the great grasshopper year and Mr. O'Connor has since that time made his home here with the exception of a short residence in Sioux City. He leaves to mourn his death his beloved widow, one daughter, Mrs. Meredith, of Sioux City and two sons both of who are residents of Onawa. Besides two brothers Chas of Onawa and George of Pisgah, Iowa and one sister Mrs. Nellie Riggs of Walthill, Nebr. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at the home by Rev. Tally and burial will be made in the Onawa cemetery.
