Peggy “Peg” Jean Melby was born February 1, 1949, in a farmhouse near Soldier, Iowa, to Howard and Esther (Leisinger) Melby. She attended East Monona Community School in Moorhead, Iowa, graduating in 1967. She worked various jobs through the years, retiring from being the Secretary with the Monona County Engineer Department in 2015 after working there for thirty-two years. She also helped clerk auctions with McCall Auctions Inc. on weekends for several years.

She was united in marriage to Bill Voss on February 24, 1979, at the Monona County Justice of Peace in Onawa, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Travis Dean who passed away at birth and Deena Lynn.

In her lifetime Peg enjoyed having coffee with friends, bowling, playing cards, camping, going for rides with Bill in the Hot Rod and Chevelle, attending car shows, planting flowers, watching sports on T.V. and her favorite soap opera Days of Our Lives. She was a volunteer during election days. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband Bill the love of her life, her daughter Deena, and her family. In her later years you would find her sitting on her patio enjoying the outdoors in the warmer weather watching people walk by and waving to them and cars going by honking at her. She was a social butterfly, and no one was a stranger to her.

She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa.
