Cynthia “Cyndie” Johnson, age 72, of Castana, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, in rural Mapleton, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2024, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Curt R. Copple will officiate. Interment will follow in the Jordan Township Cemetery of Soldier, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the St. John's United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa.

The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

It is with deep sorrow and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved sister in Christ, Cynthia “Cyndie” Johnson, who went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2024.

Born on March 24, 1952, in Pensacola, Florida, to Alfred and Sheila (Stone) Ellis, Cyndie was a devoted Christian whose faith was the cornerstone of her life. She spent years spreading, love, kindness, and hope to everyone she met and she never knew a stranger. Her life was a testament to her unwavering trust in her God, and she believed fully in the power of prayer and the strength of His Grace. Cyndie was a faithful member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa, where she was actively involved in her church community and working with children through the FAST (fun after school time for kids) program.

Cyndie grew up in in southern California. She also lived in Ohio, Arizona, Nevada, and lastly Iowa. She graduated from La Mirada in 1970 and obtained her certification in accounting. Cyndie’s true passion in life was creating joy and beauty in the world through her art. She loved making quilts, painting, crocheting, or just being creative. Cyndie was a true original. She was vivacious, spunky, loving, and full of life. Cyndie treasured her family and every moment spent with them. She enjoyed genealogy, spending time with her beloved cats, and looking after her loving husband of 40 years Dale. Cyndie served in the past on the Castana City Council and was proud of her 20-year Girl Scout Pin. She will be remembered for her spirit, creativity, generosity, her love for her Lord and Savior, and for the many lives she touched with her kindness.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. Her loved ones will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Dale Johnson of Castana, IA; children Katrina Bruner, Michael Johnson, Christopher K. Johnson (Jamie), Corey Johnson; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; mother Sheila Ellis of Friday Harber, WA; siblings: David Ellis, Robin Garcia, Michele Melborne; special nieces and nephews; extended family and a host of friends.

Cyndie was preceded in death by her father Alfred B. Ellis; sister Susan Ayotte; and son Eli Eugene Stephenson.
