4 September 2024Dwight M. Evers, 66, of Soldier, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Dwight’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. A visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Dwight Marvin was born October 15, 1957 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Joanne (Murray) Evers. Dwight started wrestling when he was in elementary school, going to tournaments every Saturday. When he got to high school his freshman year, he won first in the sectional tournament and then his sophomore year he was a state qualifier. Dwight’s senior year he placed second in the state, losing by one point 6-5. Dwight graduated from West Harrison High School with the class of 1975. The summer after he graduated, he was on the wrestling team USA and went to Poland. Dwight continued his education and wrestling for two years at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Dwight and Jane “Janie” Schlensig were united into marriage August 18, 2001 at the Soldier Lutheran Church.
Dwight worked for Moorhead Coop for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and watching westerns. Dwight was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Evers of Soldier, Iowa; children, Austin “AJ” Evers, Tyler Evers, Kim Buschmann, and Rusty Gosch; grandchildren, Haley Evers, Justin (Taylor) Buschmann, Jeremy (Chanin) Buschmann, and Brittany (Jeff) Storm; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Addi, Terek, Henry and Owen Buschmann, and Jocelyn and Riley Storm; sister, Brenda (Mike) Beers of Missouri Valley, Iowa; brother, Jeff (Megan) Evers of Mondamin, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Joanne (Murray) Evers; brother, Bradley Evers; and granddaughter, Bailey Rowland.
