Richard L. Nutt, 79, of Elk Point, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at a local hospital.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Rich's life will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be with his family at the Kennebec Cemetery in Castana, Iowa.
Rich was born June 4, 1944, in Sioux City, to Kathyrn and William Franklin Nutt. He spent his formative years in Mapleton, Iowa and attended Sioux city schools, later graduating from Wentworth Military Academy. Rich attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD where he was an active member of the spearfish cannon muggers, later becoming president of the mug club.
Rich Married Frances Moore in 1967 in Edina MN, to this union, three children were born.
While living in West St Paul, MN, Rich was involved in the development of two Mr. Steak restaurants.
After moving back to Sioux City, along with his family developed Valley Ventures LLC, where he was the managing partner of the real estate properties.
Rich was a CPM, (certified property manager) from the National Institute of Real Estate Management. He was active in chapter 63 of the institute of real estate management, later becoming the president of the Iowa association of realtors, chairman of the political affairs committee and he actively lobbied at the local, state, and national level serving on board of realtors Legislative Committee as well as a member of the political strategy subcommittee for the board of realtors. Rich was also a member of the real estate education center at UNI, a member, as well as served as president of the ringneck German shorthair pointer club, competed in field trials - finishing several dogs and proud owner of a national field champion.
Rich's many hobbies included his love for Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retrievers, German shorthair pointers, Mules, and the many critters his kids (rescued and left with him) over the years.
Rich loved spending quality time around the fireplace with his family, watching a good western or discussing politics and family history. He loved field trialing on horseback, pheasant and duck hunting, fishing, lounging by his pool at Muleshoe, Miller time with his buddies, and most of all - enjoying the beauty of a South Dakota sunset from his deck at Muleshoe.
Survivors include his three children: Sarah Margaret Nutt, Molly Catrena Schumacher, and Ronald William Nutt II; 6 grandchildren-Alysha Nutt Joaquin, Ryan Schumacher, Catrena (Schumacher) Fish, Luke Schumacher, Joshua Nutt, and Kaleb Nutt.
