28 February 2024Kenneth “Kenny” Lyle Casperson, 95, of Onawa, Iowa, and formerly of Ute, Iowa, passed away February 19, 2024, surrounded by family at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Clif Cockburn, officiating. A live stream of the service will be on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Kenny’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Jordan Township Cemetery, rural Soldier, Iowa, with military honors provided by the United States Army and David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Kenneth Lyle was born July 23, 1928, in rural Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Wava (O’Conner) Casperson. He attended Dunlap High School and graduated with the class of 1945. Kenny proudly served in the United States Army from October 12, 1950, and was honorably discharged October 15, 1952, during the Korean War.
Kenny and Jeanette Watkins were united in marriage on November 23, 1952, in Onawa, Iowa, at the Christian church. Kenny built their home in Ute, Iowa, and the couple lived there for over forty years.
Kenny owned Casperson Construction and built twenty-four houses over the years. He was a dedicated carpenter and enjoyed working with his hands. Kenny then managed the lumber yard in Schleswig for many years. Kenny and Jeanette owned and operated Main Street Market in Ute, until his retirement.
The couple moved to Onawa, Iowa, where they resided for approximately seven years.
He enjoyed repairing items, building, and mowing yards. Kenny loved to spend time with his family, the grandkids learned a lot from him.
He was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church and after moving to Ute he became a member at the Ute Christian Church and was a past Elder of the church, until the church closed. Kenny was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his loving wife of seventy-one years, Jeanette Casperson of Onawa, Iowa; children, Gary (Tammy) Casperson of Okeechobee, Florida, Marvin (Tina) Casperson of Albany, Oregon, and Bryan Casperson of Englewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Ryan (Fiancé Nicole Jacobson) Casperson of Whiting, Iowa, Kevin (Raquel) Casperson of Wimauwa, Florida, Cody (Ashley) Casperson of Okeechobee, Florida, Audrea (Tyler) Strickland of Albany, Oregon, and Ashley Casperson of Albany, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Elissa (Justin), Ethan, Courtney, Carter, Parker, Josiah, Daniel, Caitlyn, and Natalie; sisters, Myrna Madsen of Colorado, and Mary Moomey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Wava (O’Conner) Casperson, brothers, Lloyd Casperson, and Donald (Anne) Casperson; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Madsen, and Floyd Moomey; and daughter-in-law, Pamela (Beck) Casperson.
