Ronald William Nutt, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Sioux City, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Kristine Stedje officiating.
Per his wishes, Mr. Nutt has been cremated. The family invites guests to stay for a luncheon reception after the service. There will be a private interment at Kennebec Cemetery in Castana, Iowa, following the luncheon. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Nutt was born July 3, 1941 in Sioux City, the eldest son of William Franklin Nutt and Kathryn Marie (Nielsen) Nutt. He lived and attended school in Mapleton, Iowa during his formative years. In 1953, he moved with his family to Sioux City where he graduated from East High School in 1959.
He graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1963 with a BS in Business Administration. He later attended Executive Development School at the University of Connecticut and spent 3 summers at the University of Indiana, Graduate School of Savings and Loans. He married the “love of his life” Janice DeeAnn Anderson on Sept. 5, 1962 in Rapid City, South Dakota. To this union three children were born, Laurie LaRee in 1963, Liane Leilani in 1965, and William Franklin “Beau” in 1972.
After college he and his wife relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii where he served in the United States Navy. He held the rank of Lieutenant at the Naval Communications Station. He later served in the Pacific Recovery Forces during the Gemini Space Flights. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1968, he returned to Sioux City with his family to join Home Federal Savings and Loan as a Loan Officer. He later served as CEO of Home Federals’ Equity Service, Residential Construction and Land Development, rising to the position of President of Home Federal in 1980.
He retired in 1986. Mr. Nutt honorably served in the Iowa House of Representatives 76th General Assembly from 1995 to 1997. He most notably served on the Health and Human Rights Appropriation sub-committee, the Civil Rights committee, the Technology committee and the Capital Punishment sub-committee.
Mr. Nutt was an active partner in Valley Ventures, a collection of family real estate partnerships, which included apartment complexes and mobile home parks throughout the Siouxland area. During his life he was an active business and community leader. Serving as president of the Sioux City Exchange Club, the Sioux City Board of Realtors, the Sioux City Mariners Swim Club, the Sioux City Northside Little League, as well as, the director of the Sioux City Industrial Council. Mr. Nutt was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Sioux City Country Club, and a Legacy member of Kingsway Golf Club, in Lake Suzy, Fla.
He loved playing golf and was an avid bridge player. He always enjoyed a competitive game of gin rummy with his sons-in-law. Among his hobbies were gardening, fishing and hunting. He was also known for his gift of storytelling, his quick wit, and his sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
He and his wife hosted many memorable parties both in Sioux City and in Lake Suzy where they wintered in their retirement years. Survivors include his wife, Dee. His three children; daughter Laurie Muder and her husband Chris, of Celina, Tex.; daughter Liane Sennott and her husband Tim, of Gallatin, Tenn.; and son William Franklin Nutt II “Beau” of Leander, Tex. Seven grandchildren; Sean Muder and his wife Leah of Wichita, Kan.; Chase Muder and his wife Taylor of McKinney, Texas; Kyle Sennott and his wife Erin of Alexandria, Va.; T.J. Sennott of Nashville, Tenn.; Austin Sennott of Arlington, Va.; Kathryn Nutt of Leander, Tex.; Jackson Nutt of Leander, Tex.
Four great grandchildren; Myla, Maverick, Liam and Miller Muder. His brother Richard Lee Nutt of Elk Point, S.D. Mr. Nutt was preceded in death by his parents William Franklin and Kathryn Marie Nutt of Sioux City.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name at First Lutheran Church of Sioux City.
