31 January 2024Donald Paul Amunson, 72, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton, Iowa. He had been a lifelong resident of Soldier, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Donald’s obituary. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Donald was born to Milton Laverne Amunson and Hazel Mildred (Eulinger) Amunson on June 12, 1951 along with his twin brother David at the Onawa Hospital in Onawa, Iowa. He was raised in Soldier on the family farm southwest of Soldier. He attended grade school at Soldier Consolidated High School graduating from East Monona High School in Moorhead, Iowa in 1969. Donald was confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church.
Donald attended Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1977. He then moved to Soldier where he and his brother, David, operated a construction business.
Donald enjoyed watching Iowa State Athletic events and gardening. He planted a very large garden for many years and canned numerous quantities of vegetables from his gardens. Donald bought the family farm in 1981. While farming he also started working in the industrial electrical business. He earned his electrical journeyman’s card in 1992. He retired from electrical work at age 62.
Donald is survived by a brother, Dale (Nancy) Amunson; nephew, Erik (Angela) Amunson; great niece, Alexa Amunson; and great nephew, Ryker Amunson. His parents preceded him in death father, Milton in 1984 and mother, Hazel in 2009; and brother David in 2019; and many cousins and a host of friends.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Donald’s memory and sent to Soldier Lutheran Church, 223 Lark Street, Soldier, Iowa, 51572.
