DUNLAP, Iowa | Esther Olson, 92, of Dunlap died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap.

Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

"Tenant of the Month"

Our “Tenant of the Month” is Esther Olson. Esther joined our assisted living family in May of 2008. Esther was born at her home NW of Dow City on December 13th, 1919. Esther had two older sisters, two younger brothers and a younger sister. Her younger sister passed away at age 8 from scarlet fever. Esther says she was the third girl in her family so she thinks was able to harness a horse before she was able to cook a meal. Esther married her first husband in 1939. She had two kids a son Jack and a daughter Marie. Esther’s first husband was killed in action during the war six years after they married. She remarried some years later and had another daughter Joyce.

Es ther has lived near this area for most of her life. Esther was a farmer’s wife while her kids were young then she went to work as a homemaker health aid for the state and county for 20 years. Esther has done lots of traveling in her life. She talks about her trip to Switzerland where her family is from. She enjoys working on puzzles, playing Bingo, listening to music and socializing. She is a very avid reader We are glad to have Esther Olson as one of our tenants in the Assisted Living.
