Delbert E. Kroll, age 90, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the VA Medical Center of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, with a visitation held one hour prior from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Nathan Pietsch will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery of Ute, Iowa.

The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Delbert Eugene Kroll was born June 1, 1933, in Kenwood, IA, to Leona (Kroll) Landry and Everett Malone. He moved to Ute, IA, and attended the Ute Public School. He was employed at the Ute Coop for Art Nicholisen, at the Mobile Service Station for Bob Christiansen, and traveled the state of South Dakota with the Milwaukee Railroad Bridge Crew.

He married Dorothy Wellner on January 3, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute. He started his career at Coop in Mapleton, Iowa. In November of 1955, Del was called to serve his country in the 1st Battalion 18th Infantry Rangers until November 1957. He was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Riley, Kansas. Upon discharge, he returned to Mapleton CO-OP as station manager and accepted the position of Tank Wagon Service Operator until retiring after 38 years in 1995.

Delbert is a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He served as head usher, and was a member of the Jaycees, Mapleton Club, and the National Guard. His hobbies were riding his motorcycle, traveling around the states and bird watching.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam & her husband Bill Campbell of Sioux Falls, and their children: Billy of Sioux Falls, Brittany and her husband Gerit Callies of Sioux Falls; a daughter-in-law Deb of Schleswig and grandchildren Steven, Heath, Nathan(Ashley), Trenton, Amber, Sierra(Mitch), Breckan (Zaira), and Ethan Kroll; great-grandchildren Shelly, Philip, Nolan, Kaitlyn, Aaron, Jailynn, LeAsia, Daytona, Dashton, Dempsey; great-great-grandchild, Raelynn; one sister, Barbara Leisinger of Ute; one brother, Larry Malone of Des Moines, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, of 61 years; his parents Leona and Everett; a son Brent; four brothers Dorance (Buck), Oliver (Ollie), Delaine (Mugs), and Mike Malone; two sisters, Beatrice Malone and Beverly (Olson) and three sisters-in-law Ruth Malone, Darlene Malone, Myrna Malone, three brothers-in-law Buddy Leisinger, Bud Carstens and Delbert Olson.
