MAPLETON, Iowa - Joseph H. Wessling, 90, of Mapleton died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1989, in a nursing home at Whiting.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today in Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time at the church.

Mr. Wessling was born March 29, 1899, at Danbury. He married Susan Peter Feb. 14, 1924, in Danbury. The couple farmed in the Danbury-Mapleton community. He retired in 1965 and they remained on the farm. Mrs. Wessling died April 29, 1985. He had lived at the Whiting Nursing Home since 1985.

Mr. Wessling was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Rita of Sioux City and Linus "Chuck" and Dorothy of Mapleton; a daughter and son-in-law, Verna and Richard Setran of Omaha; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Maxine Wessling of Mapleton; two brothers, Clem Sr. of Omaha and Norbert of Danbury; a sister, Gertrude Wessling of California; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, John; two brothers and three sisters.
