Funeral Service Held For Dr. Harry Sheumaker

Dr. Harry Drinkle Sheumaker, son of Enos and Elizabeth (Berry) Sheumaker, was born November 5, 1884 at Blockton, Iowa, and died Wednesday, February 6, 1974 at a Battle Creek, Iowa, hospital. He had reached the age of 89 years, 3 months and 1 day.

Dr. Sheumaker was a graduate of the Kansas City Veterinary College and practiced veterinary medicine at Tingley, Iowa from 1910 until he retired in 1967. He married Gertrude Crouch June 1, 1910 at Redding, Iowa, and due to his health, he and his wife had resided at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton since 1970.

He was a former member of the Tingley School Board and the town council; a member of the United Presbyterian Church at Tingley and a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Tingley, and the Iowa Veterinary Medicine Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and six brothers.

Survivors include his widow, Gertrude; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Marian) Stark of Traer, Iowa; one son, Dr. Robert Sheumaker of Danbury, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 8, 1974 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walter Chapel at Mapleton. Rev. Walter Enstrom officiated and burial was in the Danbury Cemetery at Danbury.

Pallbearers were: Jack Colbert, J. Edwin Scott, Richard Schrunk, Paul Gahan, Carl Moe and David Hummell.
