Kenneth “Kenny” or “Shorty” Dale Mings, 79, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, surrounded by family at his home.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Evangelist Dale Wolf, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Kenny’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Goslar Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Kenny was born July 18, 1944, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Francis and Julia (Baucom) Mings. He grew up on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa. Kenny attended elementary school in Castana and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1962.

Kenny and Irene Bellis were united into marriage on July 19, 1964, in Onawa, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Jodie and Kevin.

He worked for Peters Construction after high school, which transitioned to Hallett Materials, where he worked with gravel production for over fifty years. He retired in December 2010.

Kenny enjoyed deer hunting, bow shooting, and reading western paperback books. He loved to spend time with his family, Kenny’s two grandsons meant the world to him.

He was a baptized member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Mings of Onawa, Iowa; two children, Jodie (Bill) Nielsen of Onawa, Iowa, and Kevin Mings of Onawa, Iowa; grandchildren, Brett (Abigael Meth) Nielsen of Sioux City, Iowa, and Vince (fiancé Jessie Funkhouser) Nielsen of Sioux City, Iowa; family friend-like a son, Bill King of Onawa, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruth Mings; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Julia (Baucom) Mings; and siblings, Charles “Joe” (Julia) Mings, Clarence “Bill” Mings, James (Barb) Mings, Francis “Jack” (Marcella) Mings, Edward (June) Mings, Larry Mings, and Elizabeth “Betty” Vredenburgh.
