Don Roy Hadden 1935 - 2023

Don R. Hadden, 87, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, formerly of Soldier, Iowa, went to be with Jesus on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Elmwood Care Centre, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life service will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Central Baptist Church, Sioux City, Iowa, with Pastor Lloyd Grant, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home Website with Don’s obituary. Burial will be held at a later date in the Jordan Township Cemetery, rural Soldier, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, in Onawa, Iowa.

Don Roy was born November 4, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Roy and Mariam (Carritt) Hadden. He was blessed to be able to grow up on Hadden Hollow in the heart of the Loess Hills, among aunts, uncles, and cousins. Don used to proudly brag that the land had good drainage.

Don enjoyed his college years at Wayne State College and Iowa State University. He moved to Council Bluffs to work at the ASC Office. Don moved his family back to Hadden Hollow to spend most of his years farming which was his passion. He also worked at the Iowa State Experimental Farm where he made life long friends and continued to work at his passion. When he retired Don and Darlene moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where they made new friends and spent a lot of time at ballgames watching their grandkids play.

Don met the love of his life on a blind date organized by his sister Ruth. Don and Darlene Marie Habinck were married on April 19, 1958. That began a life of love that lasted for sixty-five years. The couple were blessed with three children, Alan, Dora, and Kevin.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Darlene Hadden; children, Alan (Bev) Hadden, Dora (Lyle) Hadden Nissen, and Kevin (Kari) Hadden; grandchildren, Samantha (Sean) Hanigan, Eric (Miranda) Hadden, Adam (Cheri) Hadden, Benjamin (Amanda) Koch, Shawn (Lauren) Koch, Abby Nissen, Amber (Peter) Nissen, Colton (Lacey) Hadden, Derek (Samantha) Hadden; great-grandchildren, Ethan Hanigan, Deaglan Hanigan, Cian Hanigan, Audrey Hadden, Rydar Trucke, Ivory Trucke, Malakia Trucke, Logan Trucke, Quinn Hadden, Reese Hadden, Nora Hadden, Deric Fitzgerald, Riley Fitzgerald, Chayce Borremans, Lennox Koch, Brealyn Koch, and Jaxson Koch; sister, Ruth Beall; and brother-in-law, Harley Beall; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mariam Hadden; sister, Rose DuVal; and brother-in-law, Larry DuVal.
