Joleen “Jo” Ann Larson, 65, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Charter Oak-Ute Community School, in Charter Oak, Iowa, with Pastor Kristen Boysen and Pastor Kirk Manchester, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Jo’s obituary. Burial will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Charter Oak-Ute Community School, Charter Oak, Iowa, with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Joleen Ann was born October 3, 1958, in Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Claire and Majorie Mary (Sorensen) Lund. She grew up on a farm near Soldier, Iowa. Jo graduated from East Monona with the class of 1977. After graduation Jo furthered her education at Stewarts in Sioux City, Iowa, for cosmetology school.

Jo and John Larson were united in marriage on September 1, 1979, in the Soldier Country Church. To this union three children were born, Stephanie, Dawn, and Ryan.

Jo worked as a hairdresser in Sloan and Maple Heights, Mapleton, for a couple of years, and Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, for several years. She worked for a couple years at Magic Depot in Onawa. Later she worked at Maple Valley Community School as an associate for special education. She was known as “Mrs. Jo” for the Charter Oak-Ute Community School where she was an associate for the preschool room, for twenty years. Mrs. Jo loved spending her time with the kids and had a heart of gold.

She enjoyed chocolate, reading, cooking, antiquing, and watching Pioneer Woman on T.V. Jo was big on spending time with her family, children, and friends. Jo loved talking to anyone and always had a smile for everyone she met.

She was an active member at the Charter Oak United Methodist Church, where she taught bible school and was very active with Kids Club. Jo was a chapter leader for compassionate friends for many years. She also helped with the Soldier Community Club.

She is survived by her husband, John Larson of Soldier, Iowa; children, Dawn (Fiancé Andrew Mizner) Conyers of Soldier, Iowa, and Ryan (Sam) Larson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandson, Jax Conyers; mother-in-law, Donna Larson of Denison, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Terri (Barry) Kuhlmann of Good Thunder, Minnesota, and Lisa (Jerry) Hicks of Denison, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marjorie (Sorensen) Lund; daughter, Stephanie Larson; father-in-law, Marvin Larson; sisters, Diana Thomas and LaDonna DuMond; infant-brothers, Jerry Lund and Claire Lund; brothers-in-law, Ron Larson and Randy DuMond; and nephews, Michael Kuhlmann and Ryan Mauch.
