Marceil Louise Frydenlund, 89, of Papillion, Nebraska, formerly of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Hillcrest Country Estates Nursing Home, Papillion, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Marceil’s obituary. Burial will follow at the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. A visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the church on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Marceil Louise was born March 8, 1934, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Winfield and Lorena (Kragel) Nathlich. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1952. Marceil worked at a bank in Mapleton for two years.

Marceil and Stanley Frydenlund were united in marriage on June 26, 1955, in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple resided in Soldier, Iowa, where they made their home. To this union five children were born, Kathy, Julie, Karen, Janice, and Karol. Stanley passed away January 22, 1994. After Stanley’s passing, she continued to live in Soldier until moving to Nebraska in 2014.

Family was very important to Marceil and enjoyed spending time with them. Marceil loved traveling, especially to see her daughters. Marceil enjoyed being in the garden and around her flowers. She spent time reading, crocheting, crafting, and was an amazing seamstress. Marceil enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel, Soap Operas, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play.

She was a 4-H Leader for eighteen years. Marceil was one of the election poll workers in Soldier for many years and was a part of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church, where she was a part of WELCA and taught Sunday school for many years. Marceil helped with the Soldier Library.

Survivors include her children; Kathy (Mike) Cedillo of Bellevue, Nebraska, Julie (Mike) Ahrens of Omaha, Nebraska, Karen (Daniel) Cummins of Belleville, Illinois, Janice (David) VanNess of Denison, Iowa, and Karol (Mike) Sledge of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Britney Cedillo of Bellevue, Nebraska, Lindsey (Mark) Apfel of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jonathan (Lauren Melhus) Ahrens of San Francisco, California, Jeremy Ahrens of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessica (Taylor) Eman of Omaha, Nebraska, Christopher (Erin) Cummins of Wilmington, Delaware, Ryan (Olivia) Cummins of State College, Pennsylvania, Cody (Brooke) VanNess of Denison, Iowa, Chelsey (Derek Krohnke) VanNess of Midvale, Utah, Haily Sledge of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kayla (Andrew Rash) Sledge of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Apfel, Ezra Eman, Meredith Eman, Eleanor Eman, Dylan Cummins, Claire Cummins, Samuel Cummins, Amelia Cummins, Lennon VanNess, and Lottie VanNess; and nieces, nephew, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Stanley Frydenlund; parents, Winfield and Lorena (Kragel) Nathlich; brothers, Irvin (Margaret) Nathlich, and Orville (Marjorie) Nathlich; sister-in-law, Mardell (Vern) Denney; and nephew, Neal Denney.

Memorials in Marceil’s memory may be made to the Soldier Lutheran Church, 223 Lark Street, Soldier, Iowa, 51572.
