2 December 1968Mrs. Josef (Katherine) Peter, 86, Danbury, died Saturday night at a Mapleton, Iowa, nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Peter was born Dec. 20, 1881, in Austria. She came to the United States and Charter Oak, Iowa, when she was 8 years old. The family later moved to the Mapleton area.
She was married to Mr. Peter Jan. 21, 1902, at Denison, Iowa, and the couple farmed in the Danbury area until Mr. Peter died in 1961. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church at Danbury.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Roy (Anna) Newhouse of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Joseph Wessling of Mapleton, Mrs. Bertha Collins of Carson City, Nev., and Mrs. Alfred Collins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Joseph Jr. of Danbury; two half-brothers, George Steinback of Holstein, Iowa, and Tony Steinback of Danbury; two half-sisters, Sister Nicholet of Dubuque, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Gruber of Hospers, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church at Danbury. The Rev, Edward Hofmann officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton, The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.
