Marvin L. Rude
Born: September 10, 1936
Died: October 10, 2023
Marvin L. Rude, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023.
Born September 10, 1936, in Onawa, Iowa, Marvin was the son of Elvin and Alice (Misfeldt) Rude. He graduated from Moorhead Community High School in 1955 and married Patricia Kunze at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, on December 1, 1957.
He and his wife resided in Omaha, Nebraska where Omar Bakery employed him as a route driver. Marvin was drafted into the service of the US Army in 1960, completing 16 weeks of basic and advanced training in Fort Hood, Texas, after which he was joined by his wife and finished his tour of duty in Fort Lewis, Washington in August of 1962.
After the Army, he was hired by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for retail store management in Adel and Des Moines, Iowa. In 1965, Marvin transferred to Illinois as the retail store manager in Streator and then Morris, retiring in 1996. After retiring, he enjoyed being employed part time by American Heritage Cabinetry and Furniture. He became their delivery driver traveling to Indiana, Ohio and Illinois transporting Amish merchandise back to the store.
During his time in Morris, he served as President of United Way for two years and Board President of the Morris Country Club for several terms. Marvin loved the competition and camaraderie of the game of golf. Being a Chicago Cub fan all his life, he was thrilled to see them win a World Series title in 2016.
He was also an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, loved his family and friends, and enjoyed a rich social life. In 2010, he and Patricia moved to Dekalb, IL to be closer to their daughter Rhonda and her family. There they joined Salem Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed volunteering at their food pantry until his health began to fail.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Rhonda (Daryl) Graves of Sycamore IL, Roxanne of Lincoln IL, and Rachel (Brian) Farris of San Diego CA. He was a wonderful and loving Papa to his grandchildren Gabrielle and Gus Graves, Calvin and Zakary Farris, step-grandchildren Blake (Michael White) Graves, and Alyson (Mark) Cooley, and step-great-grandchildren Alyssa, Lincoln, Hudson, and Truman Cooley, and one sister Colleen Shol of Moorhead Ia. Marvin's family would like to thank Visiting Angels and ProMedica Hospice staff for their compassion, care and support.
Predeceasing Marvin were his parents, one brother, Richard, and an infant daughter, Yvonne Renee.
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 28, from 10:00-11:15 am at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30. A burial service will be held at a later date in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead Ia.
Memorials can be made to Salem Lutheran Church food pantry, 1145 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL, 60178 or Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, IL.
