18 October 2023Douglas E. Collison, 90, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his home in Onawa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Blencoe United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. A recording/livestream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Doug’s obituary. Burial will be at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery near Blencoe, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:45 P.M., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments in Onawa, Iowa.
Douglas Eugene was born May 2, 1933, in rural Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison. He grew up on a farm near Blencoe, Iowa, and graduated from Blencoe High School in 1951 and attended college in Omaha, Nebraska, for radio and television repair.
He married Loretta Jean Olson on December 1, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Loretta passed away on April 16, 2019.
Doug was a farmer for several years and then became a truck driver. He eventually drove truck over the road with his wife. He was a loving husband and father.
Doug enjoyed taking his family on vacations, listening to music, dancing, and playing cards. He enjoyed being a trucker buddy to many West Monona School children and driving the truck to the school for the kids to tour.
He was a member of the Blencoe United Church of Christ.
He is survived by eight children, William (Leslie) Collison of Beaver, Oklahoma, Susan Collison of Onawa, Iowa, Bradley (Sona) Collison of Searcy, Arkansas, Dennis (Jennifer) Collison of Onawa, Iowa, Patricia Collison of Omaha, Nebraska, Timothy (Kimberly) Collison of Little Sioux, Iowa, Cynthia Scheid of Mondamin, Iowa, and Christopher (Karla) Collison of Onawa, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; siblings, Gary (Kary) Collison of Blencoe, Iowa, and Bert Jr. (Connie) Collison of Weaver, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Elaine Banks of Mapleton, Iowa, Marlene (Lonnie) Campbell of Onawa, Iowa, and Debra (Larry Swank) Clark of Kellerton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Loretta J. (Olson) Collison; son, Michael Collison; infant son, Donald Collison; parents, Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison; infant sister, Mary Collison; brother, Richard Collison; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Collison and Loris Collison; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Wanda (Atkin) Olson; three brothers-in-law, Dwight Olson, Gene Banks, and Duane “Bob” Clark; niece, Roxanne Campbell; infant niece, Mary Collison; and nephew, Matthew Collison.
