Anthony “Tony” John Blatchford, 38, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by family.
A Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Onawa United Methodist Church, in Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Jason Gutzmer and Pastor David Godwin, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Tony’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery in Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 11, 2023, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Anthony “Tony” John was born September 24, 1984, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Timothy “Tim” and Janice (Nelson) Blatchford. He grew up in Onawa and graduated from West Monona High School with the class of 2003. After high school he worked in New Hampshire and had various jobs. The jobs he had while he was in New Hampshire was working for Budweiser by taking care of the Clydesdales and working for the Coca-Cola company.
When he moved back to Onawa he worked for Bob and Cheri Hardison at Hardison Kennels by taking care of the dogs. Tony worked for Derek Cartmill at the Iowa Theater in town and for Diamond Collision for David Miller for several years. He enjoyed working at all three jobs. On the side he always enjoyed being a taxi driver for Grandpa, Roger Blatchford.
He drag raced, enjoyed his motorcycles, and was always up for helping anyone. Tony was an avid Patriots fan and Tom Brady fan. He enjoyed movies and was called “T.V. Tony”.
Tony loved the Iowa State Fair where he enjoyed eating corn dogs and the bucket of cookies. He was always up for food and new recipes. Tony’s favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. Tony was the best gift giver. He loved being around his family. Tony was an animal lover of all animals. He had a dog named “Leo” who passed away in 2021.
Survivors include his parents, Timothy “Tim” and Janice (Nelson) Blatchford; grandfather, Roger Blatchford of Onawa, Iowa; brothers, Jason (fiancé, Lindsay Theeler) Blatchford of Whiting, Iowa, and Kurtis (Hannah) Blatchford of Onawa, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Tanner and Landon Blatchford, Kinzie Theeler, Hudson Blatchford, and expecting a new niece in January; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnny and Eva Mae Nelson, and Nancy Blatchford; and his beloved dog Leo.
