ONAWA, Iowa -- Esther Uhl, 98, of Onawa died Thursday March 25, 1999, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic church in Onawa. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Mapleton, Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Chapel with a 7:30 Scripture service.

Mrs. Uhl was born April 1, 1900 in Ute, Iowa to Sam and Margaret (Ebzery) Chedester. She graduated from Mapleton High School. She married Casper J. Uhl on June 25, 1918 at Mapleton. She taught school and the couple farmed near Castana before moving to Danbury in 1959. They retired and moved to Onawa in 1968. Mr. Uhl died March 15, 1982 in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Rosary Society in Onawa. She was a 52-year member of Iowa Federated Women's Club of Castana and Onawa, the Onawa Country Club, Cottonwood Creek Club. Duplicate Bridge Club and a former member of the Hollister Legion Auxiliary in Mapleton.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Warren and Adeline Uhl of Cherokee; two daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and Ernest Stanislav of Rochester, Minn. and Wilma Jean and Gene Keitges of Camp Nelson, Calif., 17 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband, Florine and Maurice Brenner; a granddaughter, Carol Brenner Dobson; two sisters, Bonnie Ullrich and Mildred Collins; and a brother, Everett Chedester.
