Darline Marie Louise Clausen, the daughter of Herman and Marie Rusch, was born on August 27, 1925, in Sioux City, IA. She lived in the Ute and Mapleton, Iowa, areas until 1995 when she moved to Greenville, SC, to be close to her daughters and granddaughter. Darline passed away on September 18, 2022, at her home in Greenville, SC. God’s grace and her determination let her reach the age of 97.

She married Edwin John Clausen on March 4, 1945. They had 3 children: Mike, Diane, and Julie. They farmed in the Mapleton area. Her yodeling and singing were often heard in the barn while milking the cows or feeding the chickens.

Precious memories fill our hearts as we remember her. She had three things that were important in her life: faith, family and friends.

She was a member of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Mapleton, IA. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, attending Woman’s Fellowship, and quilting at the church. She also helped her church friends prepare and serve meals for the Rotary Club and participated in bazaars and potluck meals for the community and church.

Darline never forgot her friends and neighbors in Mapleton and would talk about them and the things they did together. They harvested fruits and vegetables, baked cookies, enjoyed coffee, and laughed. Her garden was one of her favorite places where she took care of her flowers and strawberries.

Her family was very important to her. She tried to remember everyone’s name in her nightly prayers. She was mother to Mike Clausen (wife Kathy) of Polk City, IA, Diane Clausen Winter of Greenville, SC and Julie Clausen Wolfe (husband Roy) of Taylors, SC. They will remember her caring heart.

Remembering her as “Grandma” and as a loving person are her 5 grandchildren: Shon Clausen, Cory Winter, Cullan Winter, MaRae Winter Owens, and Kyle Wolfe; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and many other relatives and friends. She leaves behind many precious memories that will live with us all of our lives.
