Robert “Bob” D. Lesenyie 1944 - 2023

Robert “Bob” D. Lesenyie passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 16, 2023 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant, officiating. Live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Robert’s obituary. Luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will then follow in the Jordan Cemetery, rural Soldier, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Bob was born on December 30, 1944 in Gary, Indiana, graduating from Emerson High School in 1962 and then enlisting in the United States Air Force in November 1962, where he served his country until November of 1966. Bob met his wife, Lois, in Sioux City, Iowa while stationed there, and they married in October of 1964. They were married for 46 years until Lois passed away in 2011.

Bob worked as a groundsman operator for NIPSCO of Indiana for four years. In 1970, he and Lois, together with their two daughters, Robin and Janet, moved to Iowa and he drove a semi-truck for a few years. In 1973 Bob began working at the REC in Onawa as a lineman and in later years, as a warehouse/material clerk until his retirement in 2007.

Bob was a proud Vietnam veteran, and a member of the VFW and American Legion. He coached little league baseball in Onawa, taught CYO at St. John’s Catholic Church and was always willing to help fellow parishioners with projects at the church.

Bob was a diehard Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawk fan and a lifelong Democrat. He was his daughters’ biggest fan, a proud grandpa to his two grandsons, and the best dog dad ever.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Robin (Dan) Plagge and Janet (Jason) Shulenberger; grandsons, Eric and Andrew (Emily) Plagge; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Vera; and his wife, Lois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Little White Dog Rescue, 7312 Frederick Circle, LaVista, NE 68128 or to St. John Catholic Church, 1009 13th Street, Onawa, Iowa 51040.
