Mapleton Farmer Loses His Life

Edward Scheer Killed When Tractor Turns Over and Crushes His Chest.

Edward August Scheer, 60-year-old Mapleton farmer, was accidentally killed late Tuesday afternoon when his chest was crushed by the gas tank of his tractor as it upset on him when one of the wheels locked while he was driving it near his home. His son, Kenneth, was on the tractor with his father,
but jumped to the ground and was not injured. Mrs. Scheer saw the accident. Her husband died almost instantly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in St. Matthew's Lutheran church with Rev. August Rueber, pastor, officiating. Aldre Scheer, Donald Kroeger, Edwin Scheer, Carl Wasmund, Theodore Hauschildt and Lester Scheer will be pallbearers. Interment will be in the cemetery near Oto with the Byers Funeral home of Mapleton in charge.

Born May 27, 1881, in Cascade, Jones County, la., he resided near there until he moved to the western part of Iowa in the spring of 1930. He farmed near Oto and Danbury until this spring when he moved his family to the Schoenjahn farm west of Mapleton.

He was married to Miss Lillian Meegers at Charlot, Ia., April 11, 1917.

He is survived by his widow, 3 daughters, DeEthel and Joy Ardis at home and Mrs. Albert (Regina) Dose of Mapleton, 5 sons, LaVern of Mapleton and Alden, Kenneth, Edner and Myrlin at home; and 3 brothers, Andrew of Goose Lake, la., Henry of Correctionville and Clarence of Clinton, la. His parents, a brother and sister preceded him in death.
